“I learned that I loved smaller class sizes and enjoyed having those closer connections to my teachers, while in high school. I found that I could continue to grow those relationships here.”

Why Carthage?

“I came to Carthage wanting to pursue athletic training and really loved the 3+2 accelerated track. I have since changed my goal, but still love that my allied health science studies can prepare me for any work beyond Carthage.”

Faculty mentors

“Teachers and professors want to see you succeed, but a lot of my professors here help me succeed. My anatomy professor, Professor Maggie Wentzell, holds office hours the morning before an exam and is running around answering last-minute questions for students, making sure we’ve correctly understood the material. I’m planning to do a semester abroad, so I’ve been meeting with a lot of others like Professor Erik Kulke and Student Financial Services to iron out all those details. I walk away from each of those conversations, knowing what my next step is.”

Favorite class

“One of my favorites so far is Sports and Recreation Management with Professor George Williams. We’re discussing lots of types and styles of leadership. He brings in many people from around the Kenosha-Racine area to speak with us about what kind of leaders they are and how sports have affected their lives. I think it’s really cool to see real-life examples of different people and their success within their fields. We’re also networking with these speakers for after graduation.”

Internships or campus employment

“I worked in the athletic training room as an assistant, so I was mainly responsible for prepping fields and courts for practices with water and medical kits. There’s the opportunity to shadow the ATs during games and meets, provide first aid services, and help athletes in the athletic training room.”

Favorite spot on campus

“My favorite spot is in The Tower Residence Hall. You can watch the sporting events on the field from the seventh-floor lounge, while maybe doing some work. When it’s nice out, I like to hang out behind the Tower or people-watch while I do homework in the lobby. For the Super Bowl, I’ve hooked up my projector and watched the game in one of the kitchens while making some pizzas and nachos for dinner.”

Best tip for making friends

“Truly by getting involved. I met one of my best friends during freshman orientation, another from one of my classes, and one who lives on the same floor. I have other friends from work and all the clubs I’m in.”
